This week in our class we're talking about Service and Work as a practice of Christian faith. One of the ways we serve is by working for peace & justice in the world. This got me to thinking, if the Hollywood Church [substitute the name of your church here] had a Peace & Justice Ministry Team what would that look like? What kinds of things would we do? In what ways would these things witness to the truth of the gospel that God sent Christ into the world to make all things new?

I've been thnking about how I could see myself involved in a peace and justice ministry and what would that ministry do, and I thought of LA Voice and other organizations similarly. Projects like that make a huge difference in the justice of our nation. Providing medical care for those who cannot afford it, there's an organization called A Place Called Home that also works with young people striving to get these kids off the streets and focused on what really matters. Organizations lke these I can see myself fully standing behind. As a Church I think it's crucial to one, get involved in the community because that SHOWS that we are living by God's example, and two, standing for something bigger then ourselves SHOWS that we have compassion which is one foundation of Christ I wish I could mimmic more proficiently. Luckily for us, LA Voice is a great way to get the message of Christ across while serving our community to make sure children get the medical care they need.

Thanks, Kori. LA Voice is, indeed, a great entry into being God's servants in the world. Homelessness is probably our most obvious and pressing need in Hollywood and we can team up with LA Voice to be a part of bringing God's grace to bear upon that very difficult challenge. We are also currently working with Bread for the World and hosting ONE Campaign training events at the church. In fact, one is coming up on Sunday, April 23 at 3:00 pm. The Global Night Commute (www.invisiblechildren.com) is another great way to be God's agents of healing. Let's keep the ideas flowing!
