The Stained Glass documentary was amazing. Really well edited. The voices of the six major people – Dad, Jereez, Tony, Ricardo, Dexter and Jonathan Henderson all spoke to a central point. I don’t know how Brian managed to select the clips out of the thousands of hours of taping he had accumulated to keep the conversational dialogue so focused not on homelessness as prostitution, illness, fires in trashcans on the street, but instead on the real-life focus the homeless have which is somehow exactly the same as so-called ten-fingered people like you and me who can walk and chew gum at the same time. I was really moved by the film and so proud of Dad. He has been working hard to be a good Christian for about 10 years now. It is not a matter of how easy it is to work with the homeless; it is a matter of how hard it is to do the work and the courage it takes to stick with it. Dad and I want to schedule a screening at our house. Serve chili, guacamole, vitamin D pills and great music. For me, Dad was the central voice and the trigger to catapult the film into something more important than a field trip through Oakland’s homeless encampments.
