My friend Kori told me about this song this afternoon. Yeah, I apparently live a sheltered life. Take a listen (and a look).
Obviously one man is not responsible for all the problems in the world, but he sure bears a great deal of the responsibility. I heard one speaker recently say that George Bush should be remembered as the president who revoked generations of law protecting prisoners, suspended habeas corpus and authorized the use of torture. How can he sleep at night?
Frankly, I think this is a song for any president. Just because we have a new president taking office in just a few days, the same questions must be asked. Hopefully the answers we get in future will be more humane.
Finally, we all need to hear this song addressed to us. We are culpable by the choices we make. How can we sleep at night?

I'd prefer if people kept their complaints geared more towards policy and less towards the person (i.e. "whiskey and cocaine" line in this song is beyond ridiculous; discredits any weight the tune has with the post-pubescence crowd). Plus, Pink's video images didn't match the words as much as they should. She's hoping for the same emotive response to pictures that Bush hoped for when flag-waving was at its post 9/11 height. They're obviously going in different directions with the visuals, but are looking for the same response: "don't think people, just feel."
Do I think Bush did a great job in office? No. Do I think Clinton did or Obama will do a good job in office? No. I encourage everyone to quit looking at leaders for leadership. We already have our Christian path put out before us. Blogging about politics (or writing a really bad song about Bush) is the equivalent of fantasy football: an act of vanity and waste of time. In the fight against evil I like to quote this slogan I saw on an ELF/ALF banner once: "There is no us, there is only you. Resistance is fertile."
Do your part, America. The rest will be as it will be. It's not that we're out of control, but your individual responsibility plays a much larger part in the big picture of a New Earth than who's in the White House.
PS ... I'm not as grumpy as I sound.
