I just got home from seeing this film, Once, at the Los Feliz 3. It's one of the very best movies I have seen in a long time...maybe ever. It's an Irish film with a limited US release. I don't know if its' going to be released more broadly, but it's worth a drive to see this one. I'm ordering the soundtrack right away and as soon as Elysabeth gets home I'm taking her to see it.
Check out the video below, set to the most beautiful song of the film. Lyrics after the jump, if you're interested.
Falling Slowly, Lyrics by Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova
Featured in the motion picture Once
I don't know you
But I want you
All the more for that
Words fall through me
And always fool me
And I can't react
And games that never amount
To more than they're meant
Will play themselves out
Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you have a choice
You've made it now
Falling slowly, eyes that know me
And I can't go back
Moods that take me and erase me
And I'm painted black
You have suffered enough
And warred with yourself
It's time that you won
Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you had a choice
You've made it now
Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you had a choice
You've made it now
Falling slowly sing your melody
I'll sing along

i like it! it'll take me a minute to grasp all the meaning inherent in the song, but i do like it!

I saw a review of this movie about 3 months ago in Chicago. I concur. Great movie, but even greater soundtrack.

Oh BTW, the cool thing about the movie, is that the male lead was also in another unforgettable Irish indie cinematic musical, "The Commitments!" I remember that film with great affection in high school in 1990.

This is a fantastic film. I missed it when we were at Sundance and was thrilled that it came to San Francisco. It's one of the best films I've seen in years. Absolutely worth a drive. And, the soundtrack is on iTunes. We listen to it frequently.
