I took this photo today as I was driving back from Atwater Village. The view is from the bridge over the LA River on Los Feliz Blvd., looking back into Los Feliz. If you click on the picture you can enlarge it and if you look closely you can see where the ashes end and the houses begin. Notice that the trees right along the ash line are brown, but not consumed and then the houses begin right after that. That's how close this fire came to burning dozens of homes. These firefighters and rescue workers deserve huge props! They are genuine heroes. There was an interesting article in today's LA Times about the water dropping helicopters that are credited with saving these homes.
