We received dozens of phone calls last night as we were deciding whether to evacuate our apartment. We decided to stay. Around 11 pm there was a visible change. From our apartment, looking north, we could see this ominous orange glow which got brighter and brighter as the evening wore on. Then, when I went out at around 11 pm it was gone. That made us feel a lot better, even though the LAPD were doing mandatory evacuations immediately across Los Feliz Blvd. from us.
In the second picture (below) you can see how close the fire came to our neighborhood of Los Feliz. The two tall apartment towers are two blocks West of our apartment (at the corner of Commonwealth and Los Feliz). We walked down to the right-most tower to get a better look at around 8:00 pm. We could see flames from the intersection.
We were never in serious danger of the actual flames, but several times we considered leaving due to the smoke. The whole apartment is smoky and the car was covered in ashes this morning.
Thank you for all your prayers and everyone who called to check on us. It seems that the worst is over, even thought they're saying the fire is only about 50% contained.

Glad you're doing alright.

Yikes! And I echo Tompaul's sentiments.
