The month of May is National Bike Month (this site has links to state and local specific information) and this week is Bike to Work Week (specific for LA County).
I wasn't able to ride my bike today and I have several meetings on Thursday I need to get to, but for the rest of the week I'm going to be riding my bike to work. I have many excuses for not doing this. Here are some of my best ones:
+ I pick up my daughter after school and I can't do that on a bike.
+ I often have to make last second trips and get there quick
+ The helmet will mess up my hair
+ I'll get all hot and sweaty for work.
I'm sure you can think of more. Will this inconvenience me in some way this week? YES. Is it worth it? I think so. I'll try to report on what I learn by doing this.
For those of you who don't know, I am an avid cyclist and will be doing the 70-mile LA River Ride on Sunday, June 10th. I've just never mastered the bike commute

As a fellow cyclist too, I'm quite jazzed that you posted info on one of the best annual rides in the LA area (beside the annual spring classic, Tour de Sewer). Your posting is quite timely as Angelenos are seeing record high gas prices at the pump. I think we, as Christian with the biblical imperative to promote stewardship of the environment, must do more to encourage alternative forms fo transportation for the sake of our local environment, as well promoting the Adventist health message as embodied by one of the best low impact, high cardiovascular exercise out there that is cycling.
By the way, I do enourage you to participate the last Friday of this month in LA chapter of Critical Mass' monthly evening bike ride that commences on the corner of Wilshire & Western Metro stop around 6:30 pm. A great ride that is a rolling carnival with no agendas other than people coming together in celebration of the bike & interacting with other Angelenos (much needed in uber car culture that is LA). Also, do check out and join C.I.C.L.E (Cyclist Inciting Change through Live Exchange)
