I "met" Johnny Ramirez only a few months ago via his blog. I was so impressed with his thinking and writing that I decided I'd like to meet this young man. He is a student at Azuza Pacific University and just about to finish his B.A. in Christian Leadership.
So, we met, had lunch and the rest, as they say, is history. He is now an pastoral intern at my church in Hollywood. What does that mean? Well, we're not completely sure. We're sort of making it up as we go along but there are a few things we know for sure.
- I want him to have a genuine experience of the city and urban ministry. This church is the perfect laboratory for minsterial students to get experience and understanding about the ways that life and ministry are different in the city. By different I mean both better and worse in various ways.
- We need Johnny's help to coach a Missional Action Team or two. This is the next step in our missional transformation process and we urgently need leadership who can facilitate this process.
- Finally, I need help and I think Johnny brings just the right set of gifts to our team and I'm excited to work with him.
This relationship is scheduled to last approximately one year. He is currently looking for a place to stay in the Hollywood area as well as a part-time job (to give him an income and to immerse himself in the city). You can follow his reflections on this journey at intern emergent.

Wow.
Thanks for the love man!
You rock!

Good choice. I just spent a weekend at the Spectrum/AAF conference with Johnny and had a great time talkin' blogs, faith, and justice.
