Funny thing...I found out about this story from my friend Monte Sahlin at his blog, even though I live in Los Angeles (less than an hour and a half from Loma Linda) and he lives in Maryland. In addition, I get the LA Times delivered to my door every day of the week. However, this article appeared this past Saturday and I remember where the paper went that day. I kicked inside the front door as I dashed out to my car on the way to church. Anyway, you can read the article here. It's quite good and balanced. There is one major mistake, as Monte points out. The roots of Adventism are hardly Calvinist. We are from the opposite line - the Armenian - from which the Wesleyan and Methodist Churches came. Anyway, it's well worth the read.
I actually lived in Loma Linda with my grandparents for a few years growing up and went to Loma Linda Junior Academy (it's now a full K-12 Academy, I believe). I have to say that I wouldn't want to live there again. I much prefer Los Angeles.
